CHA CHING $$$$$

First Albert Pujols with a ten year, $240 million guaranteed contract and now Prince Fielder with a nine year, $214 million contract! WOW! Now my question is, are these two players really worth that much? This is a conversation I am always having with the guys around the office when we talk about sports. Don't get me wrong, both Albert Pujols and Prince Fielder have been consistent for the past couple years. These two players can change the momentum of a game with one swing of the bat. No matter how good the players are though, should they get paid for what they did the previous year? Especially if they team that sign with is not who they played for the previous year. I think the player should prove himself to his new team before they can even see so much money. What if that player has a career ending injury? Or what if their production level decreases?  The team stays stuck paying all that guaranteed money on the contract. Anything can happen in between those nine or ten years. Not wishing bad luck upon any of the players, I actually enjoy watching both players. My question to everyone is, are athletes overpaid and how much should an average salary be?
